US FDA Temporarily Lowers Hand Sanitizer Purity Requirements

The US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced in recent days that it would be relaxing regulations on impurities in alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

 

When announcing the move, FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, M.D., said it is intended to “help ensure widespread access to hand sanitizers during the COVID-19 public health emergency.”

 

Hand sanitizer which includes up to 2 parts per million of benzene is allowed under the updated guidance.
