Remembering the past for a safe and healthy future! April 28th – Workers’ Memorial Day

April 28th is an important date for anyone with an interest in the safety, health and welfare of people at work in Worldwide.

While those who have been killed or injured in work-related accidents are thought of often, April 28th is the date each year when employer groups, individual organisations and trade unions take an official moment to remember those lost in work-related accidents.

481 people were killed in work-related accidents in Ireland between 2012 and 2021, with thousands more badly injured.

In 2021 alone 38 people were killed.  These are shocking statistics by any standards.

Today, a national commemoration event will take place in Dublin. with attendees including members of the Health & Safety Authority (HSA), Congress, Ibec, and Construction Industry Federation.

Please mark the date in your calendar and make the commitment to contribute to this most important challenge.

The HSA suggest your organisation should consider partaking in the following activities for Workers’ Memorial Day:

  • Use the national Workers’ Memorial Day Ireland logo on your website, social media presence, presentations, email signatures, displays and in offices and workplaces
  • Host in-house training sessions/toolbox talks
  • Publish related content on your Website/Social Media/Newsletter
  • Have a guest speaker give a related presentation to your staff
  • Publish a press release to your local/national media marking your event / the day
  • Use #WorkersMemorialDay on all social media activity and tag @TheHSA so that we can share your content
