OIRA’s New Tool for the Audiovisual Industry

OIRA (Online Interactive Risk Assessment) has just added a risk assessment tool for companies in the audiovisual sector, to assist in managing occupational risks for persons working on film and TV productions.

OIRA is funded through the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA).

A key objective of the development of the OiRA tools is to increase the number of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Europe assessing and managing their occupational risks.

Many people consider construction sites to be a high-risk environment, which in most countries, already has well developed safety ecosystem of processes, procedures and training guidelines.

The audiovisual sector can share many of the same risk characteristics of construction. Both are temporary operations, have transient workforces and typically produce something unique. Audiovisual productions can have the added risks of working on water, use of action vehicles, stunts, special effects, armoury, working with animals and other.

The EU Social Partners of the audiovisual sector officially launched their new EU OiRA tool in a webinar on 14 April 2021.

The OiRA tool for the audiovisual sector was developed over the past 2 years by people who understand and work in the industry and also by health and safety professionals. Chris Mee Group were delighted to be a part of this project. Karen Cummins of Chris Mee Group (CMSE) was engaged on the project over the past year as External Independent OSH expert.
