ICTU publishes six-point mental health action plan.

ICTU has published a plan aimed at furthering the promotion and safeguarding of the mental health of union members and staff.

From promoting equality of opportunity and challenge discrimination, to identifying sources of information, training and support for union representatives to allow them to support members experiencing mental health difficulties. The six-point action plan sets out ways unions can respond in their policies and procedures.

It’s noted that during their working lives, most people will experience stress and mental health issues but a supportive work environment along with the right help, at the right time, they will cope and recover.

They go on to note that while workplace health and safety initiatives have traditionally placed more emphasis on physical health and safety issues rather than on mental health, effective management of all aspects of health and safety is good for workers, good for business and good for society as a whole.
