The 2020 European Week for Safety and Health at Work begins Monday October 19th. The theme of the new campaign is “Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load”. The overall aim is to raise awareness and promote good practice in relation to preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
Although preventable, Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) remain one of the most common work-related health problems in Europe. Data from the sixth European Working Conditions Survey shows that almost three in every five workers in the EU report MSD complaints.
The 2019 European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks list the following as the most frequently identified risk factors for MSD’s;
MSDs affect individuals’ ability to work. Early intervention and prevention can increase productivity, reduce absenteeism and lead to long term savings for businesses.
The successful prevention of work-related MSD’s will rely on the collaboration of employers, managers and workers in creating long lasting improvements and a common understanding of the issue.
