Chris Mee Group Support European Safety Week 2016

Chris Mee Group was delighted to support this year’s European Safety Week which took place from October 24th to 28th.   The week was part of the European Healthy Workplaces Campaign for 2016/2017 and was organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA).   This year’s campaign theme is “Healthy Workplaces for All Ages” and the overall aim of the campaign is to help employers, workers, HR Managers, OSH professionals and others recognise and manage the challenges of an aging workforce.

Europe’s workforce is ageing very rapidly.  By 2030, workers aged 55-64 are expected to make up 30% or more of the total workforce in many EU countries.   Ireland is no exception to this rapidly changing demographic situation.

Chris Mee, MD of the Chris Mee Group said, “It is important to mention that, with the ongoing rise in the retirement age in Ireland and with people living longer, this topic will only become more and more relevant”

He continued, “It is recognised that accidents become more common as workers spend more time doing the same thing repeatedly. This fact combined with the reduced agility that comes with the normal aging process makes accidents more likely“
