21% decrease in work-related deaths in 2016 – HSA release the figures.

According to figures released by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), 44 people lost their lives in work related accidents in Ireland in 2016. This figure shows a drop of 21% compared to the 56 deaths in 2015.

  • Farm related deaths have increased from 18 in 2015 to 21 in 2016
  • Construction related deaths have decreased from 11 in 2015 to 9 in 2016
  • Fishing related deaths have decreased from 5 in 2015 to 3 in 2016
  • Transportation and storage related deaths have decreased from 4 in 2015 to 1 in 2016
  • Accidents involving vehicles accounted for 20 fatalities across all sectors
  • With 8 reported, Cork had the highest number of fatalities followed by Kerry and Meath with four each
  • Over two thirds of the fatalities in 2016 involved male’s ages between 25 and 65
